AirSpeed Telecom nets €500,000 from two deals

Telecommunications company AirSpeed Telecom has secured two contracts with Reox and RTE NL, with a combined value of over €500,000.

Last month, the company commenced a three-year contract to supply network operator RTE NL with a 10Mb radio link over 140 kilometres, connecting its regional studio in Ballydavid, Co Kerry to RTE studios in Cork.

RTE NL project manager Ciaran Sinclair, said: ‘‘AirSpeed Telecom understood our requirements and has put a solution in place that works for us. The AirSpeed Telecom network will provide RTE NL with much greater bandwidth, essential for the work we do.”

The Reox deal, rolled out in March, will see AirSpeed provide a high bandwidth wide area network (WAN) linking company sites in Munster to its data centre in Cork - also over a three-year period.

‘‘We initially used the AirSpeed Telecom network as a secondary network to back up our WAN but the bandwidth, resilience and reach of the AirSpeed Telecom solution soon convinced us to make radio our primary network to our core sites,” said Michael Costello, service delivery manager, Group IT, Reox Holdings.

‘‘We previously had a 10Mbps connection but the implementation of the AirSpeed Telecom network means we now have a 150MbpsWAN link. This offers us real business benefits.”

Established in 2003, AirSpeed Telecom operates a nationwide wireless radio transmission network offering businesses high-capacity connectivity in locations where traditional services are poor.

AirSpeed Telecom’s radio transmission network has bandwidth capacity of up to 800Mbps for business customers.

The company employs 35 full-time staff in Sandyford, Dublin and Model Farm Road, Cork. It has revenues of €3.7 million. Clients include AA Ireland, Xtravision and Musgrave Group.

‘‘We recently invested €2.3 million in our network as part of a multimillion-euro long-term investment plan, demonstrating the company’s commitment to remain at the leading edge of radio transmission service provision in Ireland,” said business development manager Tim McCarthy.

‘‘We were also recently awarded multiple lots of 26GHz spectrum licenses from ComReg, which will significantly increase capacity in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway for uncontended high bandwidth services.”

One thing we noted was that AirSpeed deployed all of its own staff at all levels, for project management and installation. We weren't dealing with third parties here, and that was a big advantage in this case.
