AirSpeed Telecom provides link between nature and technology with live streaming device on The Mooney Show website
AirSpeed Telecom, the telecommunications company which operates a nationwide licensed wireless radio transmission network, is providing high speed bandwidth to enable live streaming of ‘Nestwatch 2009’ on RTE Radio One’s The Mooney Show.
Nestwatch 2009, is available to view on The Mooney Show website, www.rte.ie/radio/mooneygoeswild, and shows a live stream of nesting blue tits from special nest boxes which have been erected by The Mooney Show in the gardens of Áras an Uachtaráin and the Mary Aikenhead daycare centre in Donnybrook.
Last month, a pair of blue tits began building a nest and visitors to Nestwatch 2009 can now see that the female is incubating ten eggs. As a result of AirSpeed Telecom’s wireless technology, visitors can log in regularly to monitor the progress of the birds and hopefully see the eggs being hatched in about 14 to 16 days time. Nestwatch 2009 had over 250,000 followers last year and is expected to receive even more this year. In addition, President Mary McAleese has joined The Mooney Show on the Nestwatch 2009 project this year in her role as Patron of Birdwatch Ireland.
This is the third year that AirSpeed Telecom will provide this complimentary service to The Mooney Show. The company utilizes wireless radio technology to make the superior live streaming possible on the show’s website.
AirSpeed Telecom’s service is symmetrical meaning that the upload speed is equal to the download speed, which is essential, as the streaming of live images from the camera requires a high upload rate. This is the advantage with AirSpeed Telecom’s service as opposed to DSL broadband services where upload speeds are much lower than the download speeds.
Another advantage of AirSpeed Telecom’s technology is that it is completely flexible, meaning equipment can be moved to a new location if required. This is of particular benefit to The Mooney Show as the exact location of the nesting birds did not emerge until the last minute.
AirSpeed Telecom’s licensed wireless network is a proven alternative to traditional networks and also has the advantage of offering an uncontended high bandwidth service of up to 800Mbps which is uniquely dedicated to business customer use only.
Derek Mooney, presenter of The Mooney Show, says,
“Nestwatch 2009 truly demonstrates where technology and nature can meet and we are very grateful to AirSpeed Telecom for providing this fantastic service to us. Thanks to AirSpeed Telecom’s technology, we have been able to capture the activities from within the blue tit’s nest.”
Liam O’ Kelly, Managing Director of AirSpeed Telecom, says,
“AirSpeed Telecom is delighted to provide its wireless radio technology service to the Nestwatch 2009 project. This is our third year working on the project and we are very happy that AirSpeed Telecom’s high speed bandwidth has enabled a superior live streaming device.”
AirSpeed Telecom recently invested €2.3million in their network as part of a multi-million euro long term investment plan which demonstrates the company’s commitment to remain at the leading edge of radio transmission service provision in
