AirSpeed Telecom, the telecommunications company which operates a nationwide wireless radio transmission network, has won contracts with Reox Holdings plc and with RTÉ NL which have a combined value of in excess of €500,000. Both contracts were awarded following a competitive tender process.
AirSpeed Telecom will supply both Reox Holdings plc, the holding company for a number of separate business divisions, and RTÉ NL, the network operator which distributes and transmits radio and television services and also provides site services to the emergency services and mobile telephone and broadband operators, with high capacity connectivity in locations which are poorly serviced by the existing terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure.
Reox Holdings plc, which manages the network infrastructure for Dairygold, is being provided with a high bandwidth WAN linking multiple sites around Munster to the company's Data Centre in Cork while RTE NL is being supplied with a 20Mb radio link from their regional studio in Ballydavid on the Dingle peninsula to the RTE studio in Cork, a distance of 140km. Both contracts run for three years.
AirSpeed Telecom's radio transmission network provides Reox Holdings plc and RTÉ NL with a reliable, secure, safe and cost-effective telecommunications solution which is a proven alternative to traditional network and incumbent operators. The network also has the added advantage of offering an uncontended high bandwidth service of up to 800Mbps which is uniquely dedicated to business customer use only.
The new contract wins follow a recent investment of €2.3million by AirSpeed Telecom in their network as part of a multi-million euro long term investment plan which demonstrates the company's commitment to remain at the leading edge of radio transmission service provision in Ireland. This investment involved the addition of 23 high site locations to the network, providing a platform for greater national reach.
AirSpeed Telecom was also recently awarded multiple lots of 26GHz spectrum licenses from ComReg which will significantly increase capacity in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway for uncontended high bandwidth services.
Liam O'Kelly, Managing Director of AirSpeed Telecom says:
"We are delighted to have won contracts with both Reox Holdings plc and RTÉ NL and to be in a position to provide them with a first class nationwide wireless radio transmission network which meets all their business requirements. The diverse nature of the business conducted by both companies puts a substantial demand on their IT systems and we look forward to servicing this demand."
"AirSpeed Telecom's radio transmission network is reliable, safe and secure and will be of substantial benefit to both Reox Holdings plc and RTÉ NL in the future. We are also planning to invest further in our network to ensure we remain at the leading edge of radio transmission service provision in Ireland."
Michael Costello, Group IT Service Delivery Manager for Reox Holdings plc, the holding company for a number of separate business divisions and partially owned by Dairygold, says:
"We initially used the AirSpeed Telecom network as a secondary network to back up our WAN but the bandwidth, resilience and reach of the AirSpeed Telecom solution soon convinced us to make radio our primary network to our core sites. We previously had a 10Mbps connection but the implementation of the AirSpeed Telecom network means we now have a 150Mbps WAN link. This offers us real business benefits."
"We're extremely comfortable not just in using wireless technology, but in making it our primary WAN infrastructure. Areas like functionality, security and cost were all taken on board during the assessment process. AirSpeed Telecom also offers a fully managed solution, which was a key requirement for us. All personnel are extremely knowledgeable in their field and we are confident that this solution is going to be a huge benefit to the organisation moving forward."
Ciaran Sinclair, Project Manager with RTÉ NL, says:
"AirSpeed Telecom understood our requirements and has put a solution in place that works for us. The AirSpeed Telecom network will provide RTÉ NL with much greater bandwidth, which is essential for the work we do."
